Montoya finishes 3rd

Pretty dang good debut for Juan Pablo in his first ever stock car race. This guys gonna be force to be reckened with in a couple years. I think im gonna have to buy me some Montoya poster and put some old Gordon poster away...

"They live for this," he said. "In F1 you have a lot of people who go to the races just to show themselves or have people look at them. Not too many have a good idea of what's going on.
"Here, you'll have [more than 150,000] people on Sunday and 90 percent of them know what it's all about."

Man, im liken him more and more everyday

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh! Well, now I know where he will finish. I am watching an obviously tape-delayed broadcast of it. There are 20 laps to go. At least I dont know who won.........yet.

Yep, there's no doubt he is going to be a factor in Cup.

edit: I see it ended under caution.......that sux! I would have like to see if he had any moves on the last lap.

I see someone else was impressed by Juan Pablo. Yep, the kid's F1 talent carried over to NASCAR. I hope he sticks it out a few years, he'll probably be good for NASCAR.

Re: Montoya finishes 3rd

Am I wrong?? but I thought ARCA races don't end under caution. I swear I saw a race where they had like 8 Green/White/Checker attempts before they got across the finish line.

maybe they made an exception cause of that last wreck? or cause it got dark? I was doing other things at the time and all of a sudden it was over...

I hate to be a synic folks... but how bout lettin the boy start some cup races before we praise him. How many times have we been impressed by someones start, only to be let down. I'm not doubting his talents, because he is a good driver, but let him get settled first.

Re: Montoya finishes 3rd

cocher started arca with a top 5 and we all know how she's set the world on fire.

he said his test at talladega was easy too drive, then they tested at I think memphis. they he said these cars are really really hard to drive, although he did out pace rusty wallace

I'd watch becoming a synic. That won't make you many friends.

I agree, Q88. As of right now we don't really know if he's the next star or just another fast-driving schlump.

My person praise for him was concerning his apparent quick adaptation from the weed-whackers-on-steroids to full bodied stock cars.

To my knowledge, other than a seat-swapping session with Jeffie a few years ago which was measured in minutes, the first time he actually even drove a stock car was a couple weeks ago. Yesterday afternoon was the first time he had actually raced. To stay out of trouble the way he did, and especially the way he handled the car after being hit was noteable.

I would throw in his ability to move forward thru traffic too but the car he was in was the obviously class of the field. I'm positive a more seasoned driver could have driven that Ganassi/Sabates-prepared ARCA car immediately to the front and probably stayed there. A car like that in an ARCA race could possibly be compared to hunting squirrels with a .357 magnum.

I agree with you that labeling Juan Pablo as the next David Pearson is awfully premature. However, taking his stock car experience into consideration, I, personally, believe that his performance yesterday was nothing short of remarkable.

Re: Montoya finishes 3rd

I thought Montoya did a fantastic job considering his stock car experience so far. I have to agree with Bob though his car was at the very least extremely competitive. I am anxiously awaiting his Nextel Cup debut. Then we will see what is what.

Montoya is going to be good. He is loaded with talent, and he is getting the chance to unleash it.

I was so mad about Montoya getting all the airtime, but it was a welcoming because Kimmel ALWAYS gets the airtime for ARCA. Sorry everyone but the 59-Ryan Howard is my exs nephew and I am pissed because seems you have to blow up to get any airtime unless your Kimmel or Steve Wallace only because of Rusty!

And don't forget Chas Miller and Ryan Foster, Chas drove the truck last week. don't ask me where anyone placed, cause I don't remember now and I don't feel like looking it up. Sorry about Ryan lilsexy, he was practicing good and then to blow up at the start, bummer

Yea Grandma, I was driving home past Ryan H. parents house and everything just had a weird feeling. Then I got home and my friend told me you shouldn't watch the ARCA race at Talladega, my friend wouldn't tell me what happened, then I watched Ryan blew up! He was pissed! Poor guy! Chas Miller and Ryan Foster are doing well and I'm also watching Billy Venturini!
