Tony Stewart's history

Can anyone confirm for us that Tony Stewart once was under contract to Ford? We will need approximate dates and circumstances and a source, if possible?

Thanks,

This is a new rumor on me, and I thought I had heard most of them?

To the best of my knowledge, Tony has never even sub'd for a driver in a Ford. He started driving a Pontiac for Harry Ranier and George (?) Walsh in BGN. The following year he went with Coach, also in a Pontiac. Then GMS switched to Chevie. The last I heard, the vast majority of the USAC Silver Crown and USAC Sprint cars are small block F.I. Chevies and I don't believe any of the manufacturers put out contracts at that level, anyway.

I bet Ford would love, in hindsight, to have signed Tony but then FoMoCo also had agreements with Jeffie-Pooh and Kasey too. (Hey! That rhymes! Look out Dr Suess, here I come!)

If Tony has had involvement with Ford, it's slipped by me and I'd appreciate any info anyone may have also.

Re: Tony Stewart's history

Stewart started his Winston Cup career with a bang, as he qualified his No 20 Home Depot Pontiac in second place in his first Cup race, the Daytona 500.

Looks like he started in Pontiac to me, as Bob said

Re: Tony Stewart's history

im finding that he had one Craftsman Truck start in 1996 in which he finished 10th, but i cant find out what make truck he was driving

could have been a Ford

though, it seems unlikely one start in a truck with a 10th place finish would have led to a contract with Ford

Re: Tony Stewart's history

Thanks to those who have posted messages with information about Tony Stewart and Ford. The chance that he had a contract with Ford at any time seems remote, and we thank those who have taken the time to respond.

Best,

Good find, Q88. I didn't know about that one.

My records show it was in the #4 Bigfoot Food Stores Chev.

OK, now it begs to be asked, " Where the heck is a Bigfoot Food Store?"
