Angry Tony who?

The ony thing dangerous about racing at Daytona is Tony Stewart. He is afraid someone could get killed when it interfears with his race, but it's OK to deliberately knock Kensith off the track as "payback"? The only thing bigger than his mouth is his ego.

Mr. Championship the rules don't apply to me .......

Kenseth did get Stewart loose and Stewart did bobble a bit but recovered quite nicely ... proving that he is in fact (or can be at least) a good driver. His problem is, he is a "Champion" and thinks he should be treated as a God. NASCAR really needs to apply the rules consitently across the board to all drivers no matter how many wins, championships they have or who they drive for. It is attitudes like Stewarts that get people hurt. You can't talk one way at the beginning of the race and then do just the opposite during the race and at the end deny and confirm it all. Last year I began to give him a little respect because of his driving abilities and he seemed to have tempered his anger problem. Not that he cares at all but today he lost all the respect that he gained from me last year. Nice job crybaby !!! I only wish he could see forums like this.

I bet he's gonna hate it when he sees his interview on TV. Actually, I bet he was kicking himself for the doubletalk right after he did it.

Sometime the words just don't come out like you wanted. Sometimes your words are wrong, but this time I think the part about payback was the truth.

He's got talent, you can't get to that level without knowing how to win.

Invite him over when you can & we'll have an intervention

Let's see, so Stewart spent all week preaching safety and the woes of the restrictor plate. Then he took out Gordon and Kenseth, quite possibly intentionally (sure sounds like it), and tried to get up under Busch as well. Nice, Tony. He's like the NASCAR equivelent of a hockey goon.

"He is a good, clean driver so I guess the hard work pays off in the end."

Yeah, except for when his crew chief is caught trying to make illegal tweaks to his car, right? Like in Vegas last March, or in Dover with the whole "loophole" incident, or -- oh, yeah, didn't it happen less than a week ago, too? Look, I've got nothing against Johnson personally, but it sure looks like his crew has made a habit bending the rules. I'm just saying...

It's all about perception

You are correct and it is really tough to make an argument against your statement. I guess part of the problem is that Johnson presents a better image than Stewart does. Sadly the loopholes are no sooner caught up with and then some creative genius on a team finds yet another loophole. In theory I guess the teams could go to NASCAR and say "hey we found a way around this rule. Can we do it ??" Like that might really happen !!! I think we are all the same in this department. How many people keep it under 65 MPH's when we think we can do 70 and suffer no penalty ? Somewhere, somehow better enforcement needs to occur and punishment needs to be something that causes real pain to the team. I still feel that part of our perception problem is that Stewart appears to be a two faced crybaby and maintains that image constantly while other drivers do in fact spout off in the moment but come back next week with a better attitude. I hope it all changes for the better but I think I have a better chance of having the 365 million dollar powerball ticket. NOT

Agreed, Stewart really comes out of this looking bad.

I don't know how many of you guys watch pro wrestling, but to me this just smacks one of those storylines where the bad guy pretends to be a good guy and makes the fans like him, just so he can screw over the real good guys during the big match just so the fans can hate him more.

Well, bad analogies aside, I think its safe to say that any goodwill Stewart had earned for his crusade against restrictor plates has been spent after the garbage he pulled on Sunday.

I'm curious if there is anywhere on the web that states NASCAR's official view of the day??? Surely they will be hounded for a statement today about all the crap that went on yesterday.

I don't see anything out there as of yet. If they do release an official statement -- which they almost have to, if just to hand out suspensions -- then it will probably be coming this afternoon at the earliest.

Stewart should be sat down for one race...period. I'm tired of his B.S.

BTW, what's up with DJ and Jeff Green. I'm surprised DJ would dropkick a guy like that...

Hey, PettyFan, welcome to the boards!

Seems like everyone here's in agreement about Stewart. Anyone out there willing to defend him?

In defense of 20

If everyone would just stop running into Tony and tryin to take him out he wouldn't have to send them all a message!

OK now that I have your attention: I am a big fan of Tony. I was truly embarassed by both his on track action and words after the race. It's like the old Tony came up out of nowhere. Did he have a reason to be upset with the 17...probably. I really don't know. But even if he did that was NOT the way to handle it. His team must be pretty P.O.'d today. After all those hours sculpting the car and giving him one that was clearly one of the best in the field, to watch him beat it up must have them pretty sick. The thing with Gordon...that was racin. Two people trying to keep momentum and position. The 17...uncalled for. Here's hoping he and the team have another sit down.

Maybe he watched Days of Thunder saturday night.

lol, rave9ers&20, so Tony thinks he's in the movies?

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, hope you'll stick around and chat some more with all the sport fans here.

Appreciate your comments. I hate I missed part of the race & didn't get the whole picture but what you said makes sense. We all know that some amount of paint is gonna get swapped no matter what. Like you said, that's just racing.

Tony and NASCAR

No one can deny that Stewart in an awesome driver; however, his great strength of instinct and spontaneity is his greatest weakness that must be addressed. NASCAR looking the other way when he makes a three-lane change, below the yellow, to run an opponent into the grass is inexcusable and should now be dealt with swiftly—especially after he boasted about it in post race! Tony is racer who is not perfect, no one is—but he has a habit of trying to blow Smoke up everyone’s derriere every time he makes a bad choice. Tony repeatedly states “(he, they, [not me]) drives like (is) an idiot”…projecting his characteristics onto all others! Perhaps the Depot has an improvement section for his lack of true self esteem! Tony is in process, like all of us--someone close to him needs to help him!! Tony needs to leave his mouth shut—he runs it like it’s the car!
