Smile Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

I don't know who on here is a Jeff Burton fan, I think its great he can put a check by won a race. Anyone reading the threads know I think a champion must win a race, the more the better. Jeff is now the real deal. Congraduations to RCR. And I'm not the lease bit sorry about Harvick If RCR is to have a championship this year let it be Burton.

Five-year itch

Jeff Burton nipped at leader Matt Kenseth's bumper in the waning laps, ducked beneath him, pulled side-by-side and still fell behind. It wasn't until six laps were left that Burton finally scooted by with the critical pass. Not that he even needed it: Kenseth ran out of gas, anyway.

Burton finally found his way back to Victory Lane at Dover International Speedway after the thrilling late battle, ending his 175-race winless streak and parking himself in the lead of NASCAR's Chase for the championship.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

After 175 races it was good to see Jeff win. It was even better to see a couple of good drivers going at one another without the benefit of bump and run techniques. Always good to see clean & hard racing.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

Never been crazy about Jeff Burtons politically correct attitude but he is a class act and deserves a win. Great race there at the end too.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

some of the best racing I have seen at dover.

so many times in that last 30 laps burton could have turned matt, and it would have been "one of those racin deals".
but burton has more class and raced clean, anyone see how many times they both were sideways off the corners.

Iam glad burton made the pass before the 17 ran out of gas, IO think the win would have been tainted had he gotten it by matt running out of gas.

I think harvick handled his self well, evan condsidering he lost of points lead, he evan gave props to his team with"I can't evan remember the last time we lost a motor".

go RCR,
and kurt didn't do to bad either, he will be a force next year.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

Was "there". Been a Dover attendee (June and September) for about 17 consecutive years.

Observations from yesterday:

* The number of empty seats is on the increase. Clearly noticable.

* The track has become real "racey" since the concrete several years ago. Likely a combination of wear in and improvements in handling / familiarity. Pretty much 3 grooves through the turns regularly.

* For the pure race fan, the last 50 laps were classic racing regardless of whether or not your / my / anyones favorite was involved

* Monsoon rain hit within 5 - 10 minutes after checkered flag. Many long walks to cars were forever "memorable". As is ofter the case, vast majority of fans simply took the soaking in stride. Did not see the "rude rush" anywhere.

* Have rarely (at Dover) if ever seen so many fans hang out after the checker to congratulate the winner. Burton obviously is hard for folks to root against. The Childress aspect likely adds to as well.

* Great race / race track to see a race at.

* Real class move by Kenseth at / by the flag stand at race end. As I watched it live had to wonder if TNT was at commercial break. Would not be surprised.

* Did not see Dilner checking rims / tires after race.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

Hi WingKey and welcome to the forums. New voices are always welcomed here no matter who you cheer for. Great observations about Dover. My (home) track is NHIS and there are never any empty seats there. What is your impression as to why they are empty ?? Was it the weather ? Price ?? Other ??

The cogratulations from Matt to Jeff was seen on TV and it was real nice to see it.

Re: Jeff Burton a WINNER!!

re: empty Dover seats

Don't (can't?) know why the empties are on the increase. Do not expect it is weather because we began to notice this over past 3 - 5 races there. Certainly has not been a weather issue. The increasing empties are in real fine seating areas so it is not a case of the "less desireable" seats remaining open.

Here's the proverbial "kiss of death" for you. In the approx. 17 consecutive years of attending both races at Dover, have never (yup, that's right NEVER) been rained out.

Cost of tickets - it is quite possible that this, coupled with the cost of fuel for our vehicles could be playing a role. Dover has been pretty good about holding the ticket prices level. Ours are $84 per and have been so for at least the last 3 years. Even with this I expect an increasing number of folks are feeling the "pinch" around where they need to spend any available entertainment $$.

Don't think it is the quality of the races since as I had noted before the concrete has improved this over time. For a while there the old asphalt surface, coupled with a race distance of 500 mile made for a slow, long, and mid-race boring event.

Will be interesting to see if other NASCAR venues seem to have similar increase in empties.

Who knows, maybe those empties are paid for but unfilled. Bit tought to imagine, but --- who knows.
