| Sox owner may invest in NASCAR Boy, you just don't KNOW how long we've been waiting for NASCAR to start spreading here in the Boston area... this might just be the first big step... Red Sox may go racing with Roush - The Boston Globe |

The article was interesting but the opening paragraph about said it all, I believe: "John Henry is shopping for a cool new toy to go with his baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, and his 164-foot yacht, the Iroquois. And he may have found it." The operant word, I believe, is "toy." By the way, does this guy really have so much money that he could buy, lock, stock and barrel, the entire Iroquois Indian Nation? WOW! Bill Gates and Warren Buffett must be green with envy! Roush has had numerous opportunities to share his racing enterprise since the days that he was in IMSA solely. To the best of my knowledge, the only partner he ever took om was the Ford Motor Company, and that contract was written so that Sir Jack kept complete control over his endeavors. I don't believe Jack plays well with others, control-wise. It sounds as though this John Henry is of a like spirit, and as anyone who has played with magnets will tell you, only negatives attract. If you're waiting for a track, I wouldn't hold my breath. Right off the top of my head I can think of Kentucky, Memphis, Gateway, Iowa, and Nashville, all tracks capable of taking a Cup race with minimal effort. All but Iowa have Cup Lite races now. Plus Junior, Kelly and Kerry Earnhardt were here in Mobile last week signing a letter of intent for a racing complex to be built here on the Gulf Coast, either on the north side of Mobile, or over on the Redneck Riviera across Mobile Bay. With the name EARNHARDT on it, you can bet that proposed track will go to the head of the line for any future race dates. The ONLY way a race track can hope to pay for itself today is to build it out in the boonies where land is cheap, taxes are low and impact in the infrastructure is minimal. Otherwise, as a taxpayer, it'll be an addition to your neighborhood that you'll quickly come to hate. But anyway, thanks for posting the link. It was an interesting read.

| Re: Sox owner may invest in NASCAR Simmer Down, Now... Yes, all nine of us are very excited - not for the hope of a track (HELLO?!?), but simply for the mere hope of being able to walk into a sports bar here on a Sunday and out of 45 televisions have maybe TWO that show the race. And then there's also the dream that our boss (who's an avid sports fan and gets red sox, celtics, and patriots tickets all the time) will score some race tickets to distribute to us lowly working stiffs... No... maybe it isn't a big deal to the rest of the world, but for the starting lineup on my softball team, it's the best we can hope for.

| Re: Sox owner may invest in NASCAR Since I am a New England boy my thought is that John Henry needs to invest in the baseball team before he spends money in NASCAR. A championship every 86 years really isn't a good record. |
