I think for the most part we all buy into what 3wide is saying when he posts the true results. Unfortunately the true NASCAR fan is being lead out to the pasture in favor of the new NA$CAR fan who is willing to be lead around like a bull with the ring in it's nose. I don't mean that as a sarcastic remark but the younger fans of today don't have any recollection of the "old" days of racing when it was all about winning instead of the pretty paint job and P.R. that the drivers and the media throw at us.

Tell ya what to look for to clearly see the end in sight:

1. No more time for the National Anthem in televised broadcasts
2. No more televised prayers. Initially the move will be to "generic & politically correct" prayers.
3. The name of Jesus will be disallowed (blacked out) in any form of prayer
4. NASCAR will become increasingly / seemingly disassociated with country music
5. Team radio frequencies will be scrambled so the only way you can listen to drivers is if you pay for it (i.e. Track Pass, NEXTEL devices you now see rented at the track; cell phone subscription)

Heres what I think, if we didn't have the Chase anymore there wouldn't be any sense to watch NASCAR after Chicagoland because we already know it's going to be either JJ or Kenseth that will win. Really in the old format that last month was pointless. We all knew the Champion by then now we have no absolute idea. And that's what makes sports great. That's what keeps us glued to the television.

If the points sytem were ever to be revamped then maybe there wouldn't be so much difference in points. 43rd place gets one pointand first place gets 43 points. Do good ... get points.
