There I said it! I am taking Tbalt's line from the now locked (finally) Gordon #5 thread and running with it. He is correct, DE Jr is VERY overrated when it come to how much press he gets vs. wins/championships. I guess it comes from having a legendary father, and having his name. Either way, the kid is a class act far beyond his years. No, he has no Cup Championships, but has a fan following second to none. He is at times comical to listen to on his radio, has no huge ego that needs constant feeding, and is just a likeable guy that kicked butt for two years in Busch.

He may never win a Championship, and it's very doubtful he will match his famous father. But people like him for who he is, not what he his done. He is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant pool of sponser spewing, media whoring, ego-maniacs that are infesting Na$car. The guy says what he thinks, and drinks Bud in Victory Lane, so he's definately OK in my book.

im pretty sure Morgan Shephard is a class act, layed back, drinks beer, etc. Hey, he also has no championships and only a couple of wins.

Ha! That was good Dupont! The problem with Morgan is, he is pushing 70 by now and his fan base is the Geritol crowd, not to mention the fact he rarely makes the show.

...but i dont think he is doing it to please you. The man is living his dream..and I respect him for that. He is like the little engine that could (right now)..I think I can, I think I can.

I don't know his career stats but I know the man has won somme races.

Atleast we agree on something Nevadastars. Dale Jr is definately overrated. He has not won 1 championship in 6 years, and right now it looks doubtful he will ever win one. Dale Jr will never replace his father Dale Earnhardt, there will only be 1 Dale Earnhardt. The only reason Dale Jr is popular is because of Dale Earnhardt, and he gets the press because of Earnhardt. If it wasn't for Earnhardt, Dale Jr would be no where most likely.

I see no difference between Dale Jr. and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays talent wise

It would be like if the Devil Rays had the biggest fan base in MLB

Junior reminds me somewhat of Kyle Petty. Great guy, does alot of good things, just can't drive like the old man.

Tn_Gal, I certainly meant no dissrespect for Morgan. In fact, I'm 53 and will be with the Geritol Crowd before I know it. I just didnt expect this thread to turn towards him, so my response was kind of spur of the moment.

Mike, the thing that makes me wonder about that statement, is why Kyle Petty was never anywhere near as popular as DE Jr.? Richard Petty is a GOD to a lot of people, especially in Mopar circles. Yet Kyle is really just another field filler that does a lot of great things for charity. Even in the 90s when he was in a strong car and running up front, he never had a huge fan base.

Because he wasnt as appealing as Jr., but Adam Petty sure was in route of that.
