If nothing else he will try exceedingly hard for victories at this point just to prove that he is good, although not good enough to enter the chase. He will also come under a lot of scrutiny by NASCAR if he causes accidents and the peer pressure will be high if he starts bumping and banging the leaders.

I got to say that this new race for the chase format stinks. You mean that if Stewart, Biffle or Edwards WON the next 10 Races they still wouldn't be able to be the Champion????????????????????????

Doesn't Nascar know how many people will be turned off and not turn on the TV because their Driver doesn't have a chance?

What if the 1978 Yankees who were like 14 games behind the Red Socks COULDNT COME BACK? It would have ruined the game. What if Boston Fans who are 10 games out now were told, "ok from this date if your not winning you can't win". THIS IS STUPID.

Please help me understand and tell me what I am missing...I am open to learning, but its going to be a hard sell

Yep even if the top 10 guys DNF at every race, sad but true. I think Na$car is breathing a big sigh of relief that the guy with the most wins (Kahne) made it in.

Great point...that is exactly what I was saying when I said earlier that I won't be watching as much or with as much interest. Some might not watch at all. I'd say that they probably aren't real fans of Racing though.
I'm going to watch but it wont be the same...
I Pray that EVERY one of the last 10 Races are won by someone outside of the top 10. That's what I'll be rooting for...oh an that the Blowes driver doesn't win.

Ya know Lefty, when they were first talking about this Chase thing, thats what I thought they were going to do.........just like stick and ball sports. if you dont make the playoffs, you go home. But a field of 10 cars would be a ratings disaster for the media. Can you imagine 10 cars glued together for 500 miles at Talledaga? What a yawn-fest.

Yeah you know they were sweating bullets and when it was all over they were happy and then Helton said man that was a close one. I like to hear opinions from all of the drivers about this.

I do agree the chase stinks. However, this season would realistically boil down the the 17 and the 48, no one else is even close. So......I guess in some ways it creates interest, and for others it detracts from it somewhat.

Ironically everyone of the top 10 are now close. Only 45 points separates 1st from 10th. Sort of makes the efforts of the first 26 races fruitless.
