Funny you mention that. I was getting so tired of commercials I decided to jot down the times of them for about 20 minutes. Here is my little notes I jotted down. These are Pacific Times......

7:09.........commercial
7:12:30.....back to racing
7:15:30.....commercial
7:18..........racing (actually they came back from commercial to a caution)
7:20:30.....commercial
7:24..........racing
7:28:15......commercial

You get the idea. It is totally ridiculous. I think I may just use the DVR feature of my Dish Network to blow by the commercials for the rest of the season. They really get aggravating after a while. Anyway, so much for the rant, but welcome to the forum, hope you hang around awhile.

Yep it's a damn shame they have to interrupe the commerical to show some racing.

Re: 3 laps between commercials.....

A while back just for kicks I counted the number of commercials during one of the Busch races which are usually about half the length of the cup races. I counted 81 commercials for a race about 2 1/2 hour long. What is even more aggervating is when races are on TNT at least 1/4 of the commericals are for their own tv shows.

And how about it when the commerical is for the event you are watching? That one really gets me.

Yeah it is completley ridiculous. I like how they do it in Indy racing. The commerical plays, but the left side of the screen still shows the race.

Re: 3 laps between commercials.....

TNN did the split screen in the last couple races before they lost the races to the stations that carry it now. I bet after the stations figure out that more & more people can or will tape or T-Vo or what ever to bypass the commercials they might go to the split screen.

Thanks TN_Gal! After I posted above, I did a bit of digging and came up with a site that actually monitors the amount of commercials that we are bombarded with during a race. I dont know if they do this for every race, but here is the link.......
cawsnjaws: Commercial breakdown for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 race

We got to see just a hair under an hours worth of commercials, and about an hour and a half worth of actual race coverage. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

Re: 3 laps between commercials.....

I agree and most of the time I do tivo the race and skip the commercials. Sometimes I get so anxious I just have to watch it live.

Yea I think it was especially bad. I emailed NASCAR and TNT to complain. I know it won't get read but I had to vent.

The picture-in-picture (PIP) is a deal that ABC/Disney has worked out with the IRL. I can't remember where I read this but it seems to me that c month or so ago I read that ABC wanted to do a similar deal with ISC (NASCAR) when they take over the NBC part of the network coverage. I could well be wrong but it seems to me that ISC (NASCAR) refused the deal because the sponsors they have agreements with want the entire picture devoted to their product.

In the early 90's, when NASCAR was covered by TNN, TBS and on ocassion ESPN, only about 26 of the 32 races were televised live. Many people were screaming, "I want it on network TV because I don't get cable."

Well, sportsfans, it just goes to show you, be careful what you wish for; you might get it. Now we have pitiful coverage, with inane, low-rent boobs doing the commentary, and those of us who remember, long for the days of TNN, TBS and ESPN coverage. Now the only, repeat O-N-L-Y racing show worth watching now is Dave Despain's hour-long "Wind Tunnel," on Sunday evenings.

Bob I hope you aren't saying that Kenny Wallace and Jimmy Spencer are not equally as great as Dave Despain ?????
