I firmly believe NASCAR needs to perform an "Owner-Point-ectomy" and dump the practice. I predict this will happen about the same time Hell freezes.

| Re: How would you change the points system ? Reward the winner more points ad 5 bonus points for the pole. And I have a comment with this consistency stuff. I don't care how many wins you have, if you don't have the consistent finishes like the Top 5's or top 10's, you shouldn't be in the Chase, plain and simple. Mark Martin is a perfect example of this. He has 0 wins, but he has the consistent finishes. Jeff Gordon has 2 wins and the consistent finishes. Winning should be worth something, but being consistent wins championships, wins don't win championships. |

| Re: How would you change the points system ? only 3 changes needed imho 50 point win bonus 5 points for a pole (no points if rained out) same points from 30th back to 43rd (73 points) this gives more incentive to win and not points race (can we say boring bristol) same points from 30 back eliminates the need for teams to bust their butt to get a junker back on the track to pick up 3 points. too many debris cautions as is, and leave the track clear for real race cars. |

| Re: How would you change the points system ? I still have an old poster that shows Richard "up in his groove", Pearson in the middle and Marcis in the old K&K Dodge on the bottom. Daytona circa 1970. Before the downsizing we had some great racing. We will never see the likes of those again. |

| Re: How would you change the points system ? First place-3 pts. Second place-2 pts. Third place-1 pt. Whoever has the most pts at the end of the season wins. No past champs, no owners, no squat. This season and this season only. I bet we might see racin' again. |

Scotty ... what are you doin' there ??? Tryin' to make it easy ??? We need something far more confusing plus we need that wonderful chase 3/4's of the way through the season. |

| Re: How would you change the points system ? What if the season was broke into quarters? Take the top ten from all four, and have a 3 race deal all on the same weekend at 3 different tracks. Tracks close enough to each other so the haul is not that bad. I could see North Wilksboro, Richmond and Charlotte. Bet you get some hard charging racing.Years ago in the Northwest we had something like that called the I.D.C. International Drivers Challenge. Friday night in Victoria B.C. Saturday night in Port Angeles Wa. and Sunday at South Sound in Tenino Wa. Great races, great parties. |

My thinking right now is clouded by my distaste for the chase itself. With that being said there are many thoughts about points and different areas such as West, South, Central and so on. For those that are unhappy with the point system a simple (?) revamping of how points are awarded may be a solution. For those that dislike the current point system and how it affects the actual racing itself there are other solutions. Many times when you are racing for points the victory is non-essential. Most posters have expressed how disappointing it is to see teams/drivers go out knowing they need only to finish 23rd to get into the chase and then as the chase ends they need only to finish 18th to win the championship. That is just a basic re-run of some of the discussions that we have had and undoubtedly will have again. I cannot see the cup series running 3 races in a weekend. They complain about a 36 race season over the course of 9 plus months. For me it all boils down to what I see as a racing series known as "Racing For Dollars", brought to you by NA$CAR. While I view that as part of the problem I do understand that NA$CAR is a business and they are in it to make a dollar. Points mean nothing to them. |
