Folks too quickly forget it wasn't poor performance that landed Kahne outside the top 10, rather poor decisions and overzealousness. He's 11th in the standings because he was overaggressive on the final laps at Indy and Watkins Glen, not because he ran poorly.
He is 30 points behind Jeff Burton. He can't afford to race conservatively, can't sit back and let it come to him, can't rely on Burton or Mark Martin or Jeff Gordon to hand him a freebie.
He has to go earn it. He has to race to win. He has to grab this thing by the throat and squeeze.

I happen to think he is Right.

Cnn Had an interview on with Kasey a little bit ago, when I remember him in his rookie year and how timit he was. He sure has growen, he does his fans proud. I sure hope he makes the chase, he's a good racer and a poster child as kyle called him. Nothing wrong with being respectful of everyone.

If Kasey doesnt make it with the most wins and Burton and Martin make it in with ZERO wins, Na$car has to really re-think their beloved Chase for the Cup.

I wouldnt mind seeing Kyle crash so that Kasey can slip in, just because Kyle has been alot better then Kasey the last 2 or so months

I remember after the Food City at Bristol in his rookie season when Jamie crashed Kasey, Kasey was trembling like a wet dog. Know he only trembles in VL.

Because racing is about WINNING, not hanging around the top 10 just to collect points.

yeah its about winning, but if you arent good enough to even be in the top 10 in points then why a championship

Kasey has proven he deserves to be in the Chase this year. He was in the top 3 in points for the majority of the season, a blown engine at Bristol (while in 2nd I believe) then two crashes at Indy and Watkins Glen (while racing in the top 10) knocked him out and into 11th spot. With his 5 wins, he deserves a shot at the title as much as anyone.........especially guys with NO wins!

I agree completely Quality, but I'm just playing the hand I'm dealt right now.

Far to many multiple sport fans forget that the points system for racing and most other sports is totally different. In most sports you either win or lose. In racing you are rewarded by your finish for each event. In awarding points on that basis, consistency becomes vital. Do any of you really believe that Mark Martin of Jeff Burton haven't tried for a victory ??? Of course they have. I'm dead set against the chase itself because it eliminates the possibility of 11th place or lower gaining ground and getting into the treasured top 10. It also allows teams who are solidly in the chase to just reast for a race or two or even more.

You all need to stop applying the scoring systems from other sports to racing. It may not be the perfect system but it's what's in place. 4 victories and many poor finishes doesn't make a champion in racing. As it stands now consistency is more important. The probability of us, the fan base, changing the points sytem is very slim. Pi$$ing one another off here is useless and unnecessary.
