| Re: Kasey Kahne will qualify for the Chase for the Nextel Cup. Yes but just because it's what is in place doesn't mean we have to like it. VIVA LA RESISTANCE! I don't think anyone thinks that consistency isn't a good thing. Of course I only speak for myself. What bothers me is that racers, like Kasey, give his all which sometimes puts him out of the top ten. Others, and I'm not naming names, play it safe. It just feels unfair to me. Yes I'm stuck with the current system, but I don't have to like it. I'll continue to whine about it and yes I would like some cheese.

| Re: Kasey Kahne will qualify for the Chase for the Nextel Cup. I hope I am reading to much into it. It just seemed to me that one posting seemed on the angry side. I've watched other message boards falter and get so far out of control that they just become useless from what they were designed to be. If you were to read any of my postings you'd see that I am in total agreement about expressing opinions. I try to accept opinions as just that .... an opinion. What I will not do is get in an uproar about a differing opinion. Carla ... hip hip hooooray for VIVA LA RESISTANCE ! I'm all for it and am in agreement with the idea that just because it is in place we don't have to like it. I think the point I was trying to make was that the way the system is now it favors consistency over victories. This is where that opinion thing comes in. You may not like a 55 MPH speed limit but it is the current law for that section of the highway so basically we have to live with it until someone high enough up the chain of command comes up with a plan that better suits the majority. As usual these are my opinions and I apologize if I irritated anyone.

| Re: Kasey Kahne will qualify for the Chase for the Nextel Cup. You certainly didn't irritate me. I've been on the internet a long time and I've seen a lot of stuff go down both as a member and a moderator. I remember that there is no expressions in type and I love a spirited debate and I think this is exactly what is going on here. I hope that it continues. As long as you (and not you LSC...a collective you) voice your opinions, respect the right to other's opinions and not down others, you can have a good exchange of ideas. I love hearing others opinions about absolutely everything. In the last 5 years I've changed a whole lot in every facet of my life, some of that comes from others opinions when I really opened my mind and quit looking at the world through the glasses my parents set me up with. But I digress. I don't know the answer to the points system (although I feel it should emphasize both winning and consistency). Heck I'm just now figuring it out and I still don't understand and know it all. And even if I did have the magic answer, NASCAR wouldn't care. They'll do what they are going to do. In the meantime I'm going to whine and complain that it's not fair and hope that one day there is a fair system. It's kinda like my petition to get the nextel cup race to KY. I'm like 99% sure that my little petition isn't going to do squat. But I have a chance to do something, which IMO is better than nothing and if I can get some real numbers on it...who knows. I'm a realistic, optimistic whiner. LOL |

Personally, I think NA$CAR's Grand Pooh-Pah, Brian France and his infernal playoff is demeaning to stock car racing and reduces it down to a level equal to that of stick&ball sports. Back in 1999, during the Twin 125's at Daytona, Dale Senior said in an interview, "Bill France Sr. would roll over in his grave if he could see what Bill Jr has turned NASCAR into!" He was referring to NASCAR redesigning the cars for "parity." (A term equally as odious as "consistency) I shudder to think what Dale Sr would say about this bastardization of stock car racing we have today?

In another thread, Dupont indicates he believes that Dale Sr would do what Rusty, Bill and Mark have done, said virtually nothing. I disagree. Dale was a power in NASCAR and NASCAR listened to him as it did to no other driver. It was Dale and Childress who got NASCAR to widen the rear of the old Lumina. Dale Sr had a history of many run-ins with Mike Helton and was known to go over his head directly to Bill Jr. Mark and Bill are company-type drivers who go to extremes to NOT bite the hand which feeds them, but Rusty has been known rebel. When he was fined for having an unapprovel pop-up in the roof, he paid the fine in pennies, directly to NASCAR's offices in Daytona. He was most unhappy with NASCAR's redesigning efforts and it was Rusty who coined the term I now use, "NASCARmobile." (thanks, Russell) |
