Can anyone please tell me what is going on with this guy? He is my all time favorite in NHRA but this year it seems he can't even get out of the gate!!
He's with a huge team with a HUGE sponsor and I am amazed how bad he is performing this year!
What's up with that?

He was going to retire after last year, and they talked him into coming back for one more season.

Personally, I just don't feel his heart is in it.

I hate for him to end his career that way. He is one of my favorites as well.

He was on Wind Tunnel a couple of weeks ago, and there was something missing. He wasn't the old Gary Scelzi I've come to know. So I have to agree with you Phil, I just don't think his heart is in it. That's too bad.

Speaking from experience, retirement is a life changing deal. When you decide you're ready, there's a complete mind and body change. The things that used to be important no longer are. And it doesn't matter how skilled you are, if you have mentally retired, sticking around longer is only good for greasing the downhill skids. And it doesn't matter how hard you try to turn it around .. it's just gone. Trouble is, nobody believes that until they experience it.
