Mosley Skips Spain To Be Blown Off By Jordan King

Max Mosley's visit to the Jordan Rally this week is not running as smoothly as he perhaps would have hoped.

Despite the Spanish grand prix at Barcelona also taking place this weekend, the embattled FIA president accepted an invitation from the organisers of the inaugural Jordan event to mark his first public outing since the sex scandal broke.

It had already emerged, however, that the Kingdom's King Abdullah II would not be officially receiving the beleaguered Briton.

The British newspaper The Independent, meanwhile, reports that many rally team members have been instructed to avoid Mosley, 68, if they spot him at the event.

It is also believed that a royal dinner on Wednesday evening was so poorly attended because Mosley was a guest.

He plans to meet with teams and bosses on Friday, but one told the Daily Mail that he considers Mosley's visit to be a political ploy: "I do not like our sport being held hostage."

The FIA president's next move could be a visit to Israel, after an invitation from sports minister Galeb Majadle.

"Mosley will see the invitation from a country so obviously sensitive to anti-Semitism as proof that he can discharge his role as FIA president," the Daily Mail said. "Others will see it as empty posturing ahead of (the) FIA's vote over his conduct, scheduled for June 3," it added.

Maybe I'm being a bit over cynical but it would appear that our boy Max might be on his way out the door, either willingly of being unceremoniously tossed.

But then, OTOH, I'm not too sure I'd be all that thrilled about breaking bread with King Abdullah II, myself. Maybe Max came out on the long end of this sited deal?

unlike you and I, people like Max are more concerned about appearance than likability. being publicly shunned by royalty, any royalty, is undesirable. but with the prospect of going to Spain and having to face the press and hostile car manufacturers in F1, I think he's lucky he had a non-European venue to attend - sort of a "quick vacation" away from "the heat."

I'm not too sure about your "Likability" part of the equation. Speaking only for myself but I'll take substance over appearance any day. But then, "appearance" over "substance," and people being more concerned more about how they intentions are viewed, rather than how the action itself is perceived, has become a very sad fact of life.

As far as Max's loss of face is concerned, I go back to my main complaint about Rick Hendrick; If you do the crime, then man up and do the time, damn it! Don't try some back door way to weasel out, then turn around and proclaim yourself some sort of hero!

Let be be said that I probably suffer less from class envy and wealth envy than maybe anyone you might know. That being said, people like Mosley, Hendrick and the yahoos who inhabit the District of Criminals give the wealthy and the powerful an undeserved bad name, and a pox on their collective houses!

<SOAPBOX MODE OFF> Sorry. You put me on a roll...

you are using a definition of appearance that I wasn't... what I meant was that Max and the like are more concerned with their appearance of wielding massive amounts of power than whether anyone "likes" them. the current scandal, prompting the maximum (pardon the pun) embarassment, a vote of no confidence by nations and manufacturers, will be a major blow to his (perceived) power. and, I think Maxie is totally cognizant of the fact that Bernie has already left the sinking ship, so to speak. only his ego remains to be dashed .. and, like you, I believe that day is rushing at us (and him.)

Right you are. I stand corrected.
