Pre-Race Analysis: Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR

Daytona Prototypes

Just going on most recent successes, TELMEX CHIP GANASSI RACING WITH FELIX SABATES (Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas – No. 01 Lexus Riley) seems to be the team to beat at VIR. However, MICHAEL SHANK RACING (Ian James, John Pew – No. 6 Ford Riley; Oswaldo Negri, Mark Patterson – No. 60 Ford Riley), BRUMOS RACING (David Donohue, Darren Law – No. 58 Porsche Riley; Joao Barbosa, JC France – No. 59 Porsche Riley), KROHN RACING (Tracy Krohn, Eric van de Poele – No. 75 Pontiac Lola; Nic Jonsson, Ricardo Zonta – No. 76 Pontiac Lola) and RILEY-MATTHEWS MOTORSPORTS (Marc Goossens, Jim Matthews – No. 91 Pontiac Riley) will be in the hunt as each have had recent wins or poles.

Among these contending teams, Riley is the most favored chassis with 3 of these teams while Lola is the final team's choice. But Pontiac is the most favorite power plant with 2 teams while Lexus, Ford and Porsche are each the choice of one of the remaining teams.

GT

The GT field is a bit less wide open as BANNER RACING (Ron Fellows, Leighton Reese – No. 06 Pontiac GXP.R; Kelly Collins, Paul Edwards – No. 07 Pontiac GXP.R), STEVENSON MOTORSPORTS (Andrew Davis, Robin Liddell – No. 57 Pontiac GXP.R; James Gue, John Stevenson – No. 97 Corvette), SPEEDSOURCE (Emil Assentato, Jeff Segal – No. 69 Mazda RX-8; Sylvain Tremblay, Nick Ham – No. 70 Mazda RX-8) and FARNBACHER LOLES RACING (Leh Keen, Eric Lux - No. 86 Porsche GT3; Dominik Farnbacher, Dirk Werner - No. 87 Porsche GT3; Steve Johnson, Dave Lacey - No. 88 Porsche GT3) have had the most success recently.

The cars represented by these teams are: Pontiac GXP (2 teams), Corvette (1 team), Mazda RX-8 (1 team) and Porsche GT3 (1 team).

As always in the Grand Am series, you look for the most successful teams to podium, but there always seems to be a lesser team that shows well.
