| Re: Andretti: Greatest Racing Family Ever Whenever I hear the name Michael Andretti, I remember when he used to race at Portland Int'l Speedway in IRL or Cart when they were one series. My brother wanted an autograph from him and he wouldn't give him one. I wasn't there, don't know details but I guess he was an a-hole.

| Re: Andretti: Greatest Racing Family Ever Great yes but not what I'd consider the greatest. Petty's, Wallace's, Earnhardt's, Bodine's, Nemecheck's, Jarrett's, Allison's and I'm sure many others. That would be a good poll question. |

| Re: Andretti: Greatest Racing Family Ever just to add to my case for the Andretti's "in Milwaukee, Michael, John and Mario completed the trifecta dominating the podium for only time known in motorsports history for a family to finish first, second and third respectively." |

| Re: Andretti: Greatest Racing Family Ever A.J. Foyt is another great example of family racing. A.J. even won in both series. Too many great choices out there. The Andretti's are definitely in the running. |

Al Unser Sr. -- Al Sr. is one of three people to have won the Indianapolis 500 four times. His 646 laps led there is a record, and he is the oldest person ever to win the Indy 500 (he was 47 at the time). Al Sr. was the 1970 and 1983 Champcar champion and the 1978 IROC champ. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1991 and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1998. Bobby Unser -- Al St. is the oldest driver ever to win the Indy 500, and the guy whose record he broke was his brother Bobby's. He won the race at the brickyard three times and is one of just two guys to pull off victories in three different decades (60s, 70s, 80s). He also won the 1970 IROC championship. Bobby Unser was enshrined in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1994. Al Unser Jr. -- "Little Al" won the 1992 and 1994 Indy 500s. When he won the IROC championship in 1986, he was 24 and the youngest ever to accomplish the feat. He won the title again two years later. He had retired, but recently announced along with Michael Andretti that he's going to run the 2006 Indy 500. It should also be noted that three other Unsers -- Al Sr.'s brother Jerry and his nephews Johnny and Robby -- have also competed in the 500. They also have another record all to themselves. Al Sr. is the only person to have won the Indy 500, had his brother win it, and his son as well. Not sure how to describe it... I guess they're the only Father-Son-Uncle/Brother combo to ever all win at Indy. |
