Loeb and Citroen unstoppable in Monte Carlo

By David C. Schilke - Motorsport.com

Podium: winners Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena celebrate
WRC > Monte Carlo, 2008-01-27: Leg three

Sebastien Loeb's name was added to yet another World Rally Championship record today after taking his fifth Monte Carlo Rally, something never achieved since the first race in 1911. Loeb was leading the rally after day one and never let go. He hasn't lost on a tarmac event since losing the 2006 Monte Carlo to Marcus Gronholm. Loeb was honored by royalty on the podium at Monaco's palace. Alongside him was the co-driver that's been there from day one, Daniel Elena. The pair's five-time success is shared by Citroen, first in an Xsara and then the C4 starting last year.

Officially Loeb will be counted as winning here five times, but in reality the Frenchman has done it six times, starting in 2002. Unfortunately, that year Loeb was later penalized for the team changing his Xsara's tires in what was supposed to be a limited service area. The win was awarded to Tommi Makinen once Citroen withdrew their appeal. The victory would be the last of Makinen's four consecutive wins at Monte Carlo -- something Loeb has yet to equal.

Re: Loeb and Citroen unstoppable in Monte Carlo

After the much contested 2006 and 2007 seasons, the 2008 season seems probably be boring with Marcus Gronholm retired.

Yep.

The Ford and Citroen cars are equall, but nobody can match Loeb from the looks of things.
