| V8 Supercars to reward more teams in 2008 points score V8 Supercars Australia will reward more teams and drivers in the 2008 Championship Series with a point-score that extends to 30th position yet retain the important emphasis on passing. The V8 Supercar Championship Series begins in Adelaide next month with the Series being officially launched in Melbourne on February 6. Two compulsory team test days will be held in Victoria and Queensland on the 12th and 14th of February followed by the Clipsal 500 from February 21-24. The board of V8 Supercars Australia agreed to return to the extended allocation after 2007 where teams that finished lower than 15th did not receive points for their effort. “The board felt it was important that teams who made the effort in the lower half of the field should still be rewarded with points that reflect their finishing position,” V8 Supercars Australia Chief Executive Wayne Cattach said. “We have done this without removing the importance of passing that we hope will result in a finish similar to last year when, after an entire season, one single pass would have changed the Championship in Jamie Whincup’s favour ahead of Garth Tander. “The formula proved spot on in 2007 and we trust it will be the same in 2008.” more...
