In the wake of the cancellation of the Lisboa 2008 Dakar Rally Raid UK has decided to provide its customers with an alternative event for the year.

Rally Raid UK is a UK based privateer group whose entry this year to the Lisboa Dakar 2008 consisted of 12 Desert Warrior race cars, including the prototype independent suspension variant of the Desert Warrior and 5 KTM motorcycles including well known privateers as Tom Classen, Evert Kroon, Paul Green & Ian Rochelle.

Paul Round, founder of Rally Raid UK said 'It's unbelievably disappointing for our friends and clients to get all the way to the start of the event and then have events outside of our control destroy the whole experience, each of our team members have paid their own way and the financial cost of the cancellation of this event is almost unbearable -- still it has to be better than being taken hostage'

Martin Coulson, Team manager of Rally Raid UK said 'We have to work quickly to provide an alternative option for our clients and other Dakar entrants, all the hard work that has been put in over the past 8 months is now loaded onto a large number of assistance vehicles and we have 12 Desert Warrior race cars and 5 KTM's literally ready to race -- The Trans Oriental is the logical event for us to look at'

Rally Raid UK will compete in the Trans Oriental race in June this year with an almost full complement of entrants from the Lisboa 2008 Dakar, in this way we hope to deliver to our privateer customers an alternative event to the Dakar with as little financial impact as possible. We are totally committed to our existing client base and have sought to find a solution for our clients with the minimum economic impact and still retain the same level of service and support.

methinks you misunderstand Mr. Round's statement. What he is doing is taking his 12 cars and 5 motorcycles to another event to satisfy his teams & sponsors. The event he is targeting is the Transorientale Marathonrally, June 12-28.
