Re: 2008 World Of Outlaws Schedule

This is a basic question but this is a racing 101 topic I managed to sleep through...

Can someone explain the qualifying procedure for a typical WoO weekend to me. Having spent copious amounts of time at local tracks I know all about heat races, consolation races, last chance races, etc., from which drivers move to the feature race. I have never gotten to concept of A-B-C-...X-Y-Z Mains?

Help!

Many of the sprint car series use the same format .. as do the Motocross crowd:

Basically, time trials set the order of "seeding" of the heats, i.e., fastest to heat 1, 2nd to heat 2, and so on until the required number of heats have been filled. what's the required # of heats? just take the # of entrants divided by "max heat size" and there you are. the heat size could be 8 or 12 or whatever gives the right number of top x finishers advancement to the "A" main. those who don't make the "A" main are relegated to the "B" main(s). because the tracks these guys race on can get very crowded, they limit the number of cars in any race to 20-30 or so depending on the track. think of the "B"main(s) as consolation race where the top (usually) 2 finishers (but sometimes as many as 5) transfer to the "A" main. the "A" main is the "money" show .. the reason all 70-100 cars showed up in the first place!!!

does that help?
