John Force Makes Surprise Visit To NHRA Staff Drags

Force rolled up in the middle of our time trials and stayed through the first round, just enjoying being at the track. Cell-phone cameras were whipped out as he chatted with the gathered troops, and you could just see him light up. I finally talked him into making a run (yeah, like that was a hard sell), helping him into his Lincoln pickup, tossing his walker into the bed alongside his wheelchair, and sending him on his way.

With a large group cheering (literally) him on and applauding, he saddled up in the left lane for what would be his first trip down the quarter-mile since the scary accident in Dallas nearly two months ago. He turned his ever-present Castrol cap backward and yelled out the window, "Tell Pedregon I'm coming for him," and off he went. It was a very, very special moment.

reallly a neat story. I'm glad to see John moving around and getting the old juices flowing again.

Me too! I was watching that race from Dallas and thought for sure he was either seriously hurt worse than he was or dead. That was one heck of a wreck he had. Luckily, his guardian angel was riding with him that day.

If you haven't seen it, here's the YouTube video:

I was at Dover that day, and it was tough getting accurate info on it until I got home. I had no idea how bad it was at the time.

John truly is a lucky man. I would not be surprised to see him race this season, then retire.

Great story.

As if losing Medlin earlier in the season wasn't bad enough, he almost loses his own life. Like everyone, I hope John returns healthy and active but...

Seeing Ashley strap in must be tough for him thiese days.

methinks John will retire within the next 18 months (or do a "Mark Martin") .. not because he's slowed down, which he has, but because he wants to devote more time to his thriving teams. he's the perfect example of a "stage mother" when it comes to his girls.
