| Re: Refs WANT Montreal enough. Enough. This is about hockey- not about a group of shrouded men meeting in a dark basement somewhere chanting the Oley Oley Oley Oley song while burning candles. The Montreal canadiens are a fantastic team. there is no conspiracy and their play is cheapened by comments like this. I've seen the replays too. I see an intentional knee by richards and I don't see a crossbar being hit by the stick - but we've done this to death. What i like to do is, use the players as my example - They got over it - and so should we. move on. This happens, for every team in every conference in the entire league.

And I see the oppisite. The goal was legit, but the kneeing call wasn't. If we area going to let this die, then we have to just let it die. But the kneeing call was fiction. Even Brian Engblom and Kieth Jones said the refs blew that one. Kovalev is just so shifty that he made it look bad. In live action, it did look like a knee, but when you see the angle from the end, you can see the impact of the shoulder into the hip area. Yes, the knees hit, but that was incidental, and happened at the same time as the shoulder hit. If we are going to let this go, then let it go. Don't let one person stir it all up again. We are not going to agree on this, but lets at least be objective. I don;t think there is some conspiracy, but I do think NHL ref just plain suck, and they suck in every game. But we can't pretend that last kneeing call was correct, it just plain wasn't. NO Way. Let it die. That mean you too Olie. Let's just play game 2, and move on.

The last word re the specific calls is yours. You talk about objectivity, Phils - Who is objective here? None of us, really. We have chosen our sides, we have picked our teams. I don't know who Brian Engblom and Kieth Jones are, but I can cite a few names saying the calls were good. We have to rely on our refs for the final word - sometimes we agree, sometimes we don't. But if this game sours what may be the eventual win by the habs - that's where it hurts hockey. If there will always be a reference to - oh they didn't really win game 1 - that takes away from the hockey the habs are playing right now - which is great hockey. Just like the goal the Flyers were given when they ran over huet in the first round - it was a no goal, but I'm not going to revisit it - this is hockey. Flyers won the first round fair and square. |

| Re: Refs WANT Montreal Well, I feel it takes away from the outcome too, and calls have to be right. Brian Engblom is a former player that called the games on ESPN for about 8-10 years, and he was an NHL defenseman. Kieth Jones was a member of the Capitals, Avalance, and Flyers over a 10 year career, and to be fair, calls the Flyers games in the regular season. However, Englboms comments really struck me. He stated that the Flyers should have known a call was coming, and not taken a chance on doing anything that could be construed in any way a call. In his view, the momentum was swinging the Habs way, and everyone there knew a call was going to be made. What kind of garbage is that?????????? He also went on to say that Richards shouldn't have even tried to check Kovalev, due to the momentum swing. That Kovalev is too shifty, and it could go badly for the Flyers. And that again, live, it looked like a call, but replay clearly shows the shoulder hits first, and that the ref got fooled by Kovalevs shiftiness in avoiding the hit, for the most part. In other words, give the refs a pass because it was a close call. To that I say BULL. The call has to be right. So you just shouldn't check in the last minute of the game?? I know. We should just not allow contact at all anymore, so the poor refs won't have to make tough calls, or be responsible to get them right. And hey, some calls worked out the Flyers way. The Caps got royally screwed on the non interference call. That ref crew should also be sanctioned. That was the most brutal non call I've seen in recent memory, and also directly changed the game. Again, I don't think it is anything anti Philly, or pro Montreal, but I do strongly feel it was a bad call. And it directly cost us the game. I've gotta go to a family outing, but when I get back, I'll try you-tube for a replay of the hit. There is an angle that clearly shows the shoulder hit. And I don't need any experts to tell me about that call. I only mention the two above due to thier sentiment the Flyers should have known better than to even try to be aggressive. Wow, if that is the way the NHL is going, then I'll just not watch. The game isn't the game without hitting. No way do I see the game being played that way. If so, you can have it... Oh, and you say it hurts hockey if folks talk abuot the bad calls. Ask a Caps fan how they feel about that. They just might be the ones playing the Caps if the right call was made in that game. I think that is the unfair thing. In the end, poor officiating hurts the game, and not talking about it doesn't make the calls right. |

| Re: Refs WANT Montreal I'm sorry that I have to add to this but here goes. I'm not computer savvy enough to provide the link but if you go to habs insideout.something, there's audio of Mike Richards. He plainly says it was a penalty. He said I tried to check him and Kovalev tried to dodge it and the penalty happened. Who cares if was a knee or not, if they don't call it tripping then they call it interference. He clearly took Kovalev out of the play. Again sorry, let's just enjoy this thing tonight....I hope I can but my nerves are pretty frayed. |

| Re: Refs WANT Montreal Flyers vs. Canadiens: Things look clearer the day after | Philadelphia Daily News | 04/26/2008 Glenn, this link shows the quote you gave. Good enough for me. Let's all move on. Personally, I still think it's a cheap call, but if it's good enough for Mike, it's good enough for me. If the Flyers play the way they did in game one, it won't matter. The Habs are going down anyway. |
