Montreal loses in overtime

So sad. Did you see it? a minute and something into OT and a shot by Hurricane Stillman gets tipped by Rivet and Huet doesn't know where it goes - it went in the net. Cherry of course (who said he knew the canadiens were going to lose) said Huet would have had it if Rivet hadn't stuck his stick in there.
Still - no 'I' in 'Team' - although there is an 'I' in 'Canadiens'. They lost as a team. saddest thing is, we won't be able to watch Huet anymore. he plays a great great game of hockey and it seems unfair he isn't going on.
They gave us a good last game, too. Cam Ward and the canes were mad that so many habs were in the crease, getting on the goalie's nerves - which means they were doing their job. Lots of physical play.
So Kirk Muller was watching from the seats with koivu - Muller is coach of the Queen's Univ. hockey team and he also assis coached at the under 18 world championship. There's rumblings that Gainey will step down (concentrate on GM job), carbonneau will take over as head coach of the Habs and Muller will get a role as an assistant.
Glad to SOMETHING happening SOMEWHERE. Gainey if you ask me is a great coach.

Tsk... shame. I really though Huet and this team could make a run at it. Ah well, there's always next year!

Re: Montreal loses in overtime

I'm glad the Habs lost...why do they call them the Habs anyway? Carolina is like the great white hope. With Philly and Detroit gone, the 'Canes are the only way that the US is gonna get a Cup. Don't you think?

Re: Montreal loses in overtime

Well, I kind of started rooting for Huet when I started posting about his shutout streak. But the Canes as the last great American hope for a Cup after Dallas laid an egg? When you look at it that way, then I'm cool with it. Go USA!

Re: Montreal loses in overtime

I like the habs because of their history. They've been around a long time and having the cup back in Montreal would be special - a little more hockey town than carolina.
I like them because they are a team that has no jerks. They're a classy team, and man did they rev up in the final weeks and earn that position in the first round.
they are the habitants, which is French for the orginal settlers to the area, and they are called the habs for short.

Re: Montreal loses in overtime

Thanks blueandwhite. I can't root for a Canadian team unless they are playing another Canadian team. Like two years ago when the Lightning played the Flames in the finals, the Flames immediately became the enemy. blueandwhite are you from Toronto?

lived there for fifteen years, have always lived around Toronto growing up and now.
there was that six year stint in Ottawa, but rooting for Ottawa would be against my moral code.

Re: Montreal loses in overtime

I don't get it - did a Canadian girl dump you or something?
we all don't share one moral code. we each have our own.
so let's just talk hockey.

Since we are speaking of codes, here is a re-work of "Code of Silence" for you blueandwhite girl...(and before you ask..no never been dumped by a Canadian...they usually like me...cause I am a bit off the wall...BTW, its time we get back to our series...my bosses have left town...I am free to play...)

Everybody's got a million questions
Everybody wants to know the score
But what Canadians go through
It's something even you
Should grasp by now

Everybody wants to know our secrets
Of why we don’t win like before
And it seems so strange
Because it wouldn't change
How I am feeling anyhow

But I swore to myself a long time ago
There were some things that people never needed to know
Hockey’s a sacred thing that I keep
Bury In my heart so deep
No one can tear it out

And I won’t talk about it
Because I’m following a code of silence
It’s a code they say, that’s with me every day
Though you might see it a different way

And I can't talk about it
Because in a way its all a madness
To be living by a code of silence
When I really got a lot to say

I don't want our teams to lose a championship
For In Canada, we have our pride
And even a little loss affects us in a bigger way

And I still have this rage inside me
That I simply can not hide
In the only part of a broken heart
That for Canada’s teams I save

And I have been through it before, so I know how it ends
I don't see the point of going through it again
And this ain't the place, and this ain't the time
And neither's any other day

And I won’t talk about it
Because I’m following a code of silence
It’s a code I say, that’s with me every day
Though you might see it a different way

And I can't talk about it
Because in a way its all a madness
To be living by a code of silence
When I really got a lot to say

If you know me, you know I have my reasons
That's not the kind of code I’m inclined to break
Some things unknown are best left alone forever
And if a vow is what it takes
Then let me have my code for heaven sakes

After the moment passes
And the impulse disappears
I will still hold back
Because I don't crack very easily

It's a time honored resolution
That has become to me so dear
It's with me now
And that’s how it was supposed to be

And it's hard to believe after all these years
That a loss still gives me pain and it still brings tears
but I don’t feel like a fool, because in spite of the rules
I got plenty of good memories

And I won’t talk about it
Because I’m following a code of silence
It’s a code they say, that’s with me every day
Though you might see it a different way

And I can't talk about it
Because in a way its all a madness
To be living by a code of silence
When I really got a lot to say
