| Firm on his commitment, Alford's visit simply icing STARKVILLE — John Paul Alford is excited about seeing Scott Field, sure. He'll enjoy the visit to Mississippi State's locker room, will look forward to the sit-down with coach Sylvester Croom and probably won't be shy at the dinner table. But that's all old hat to him, especially considering he grew up a Bulldogs fan. So when the lineman from Kosciusko takes his official recruiting visit to State this weekend, he's more excited about meeting with history professors than about anything else. History professors? Really? "I'm going to major in some kind of history," Alford said. "They're going to set me up and I'm going to meet some history professors. Looking forward to that. My parents haven't had the chance to meet the coaches and know them, and I'm really excited about them getting to know them." For Alford, this weekend's visit isn't about being sold on the Mississippi State program. He committed back in May, and like the majority of the players who will be visiting MSU's campus for the program's big recruiting weekend that starts today, it's all just icing on the cake. "I'm looking forward to seeing who I'll be seeing the next four or five years of my life," he said. This is just the way Croom likes it. The bulk of State's recruiting is over. Precious few spots remain.
