| Strong season not likely to affect '08 class With a 7-5 record, Liberty Bowl berth and a coaching change at the arch-rival up the road, the recipe for a banner year for Mississippi State recruiting is clear-cut, right? To that notion, MSU coach Sylvester Croom says this: Not so fast. "People say we're going to get in a lot more doors, but a lot more doors where? We're still a small-town team," Croom said last week. "And there's still a kid that wants to play in a 100,000-seat stadium, they want to play in a big city." Indeed, most of the high school seniors who gave non-binding, oral commitments to State did so before the Bulldogs sparked their turnaround season with wins at Auburn and Kentucky, then solidified their bowl berth with wins over Alabama and Ole Miss. As State goes into the final few weeks of recruiting season, don't look for a wholesale change in the way it approaches the class of 2008. Croom said the Bulldogs will look to sign a class of about 25, but there would likely need to be some attrition from current players and some non-qualifiers to get that 25 to fit into the number of scholarships State actually has. The biggest boon for Mississippi State won't be immediate, Scout.com expert Scott Kennedy said, but it will come. Full Story
