Maybe Alabama coach Nick Saban didn't mean anything by it. Maybe he was just being honest. But it sure sounded like a challenge to a certain opposing fan base. After practice Wednesday, I asked Saban about how his team is preparing for the clanging crowd noise at Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville. Did he plan to bring in people to ring cowbells on the sidelines of the practice fields, I asked?
Saban didn't crack a smile. Instead, I got the stare. Then the, is this guy serious? smirk. He did finally answer it, and his quotes are down below. But the line that made my eyebrows jump was this one: "I don't remember the cowbells," Saban said. "I mean, we played there several times, and they have them, but I don't remember them. They didn't make a lasting impression."
