| Croom: Recruiting 'way ahead' STARKVILLE — Three months before February's national signing day, Mississippi State football coach Sylvester Croom sent his assistants to their recruiting territories late last week with a particular emphasis: Gathering film on this year's crop of high school juniors. He hasn't always had this work-ahead luxury, oftentimes still needing to fill many spots by the time November rolled around. This year is different, and Croom isn't complaining. "We're way ahead," Croom said last week. That State is able to focus on junior recruiting during its open week is the result of plenty of factors. Mainly, the staff is completing its fourth on-field year, and the effects of replenishing the MSU roster are starting to allow for more selective recruitment. Also, this year's success - State has a 5-4 record heading into this week's game against Alabama - hasn't exactly hurt. But most of the Bulldogs' commitments were made before this year's watershed wins at Auburn and Kentucky. Full Story
