Two Mississippi State players were honored Monday by the Southeastern Conference for their play in Saturday's 31-14 win at then-No. 14 Kentucky.
Senior defensive end Avery Hannibal was named the SEC defensive player of the week. Hannibal had five tackles, including three for losses. Two were quarterback sacks.
He was an integral part of an MSU defense that held UK's offense 143 yards below its season average.
Hannibal is the third Bulldog to earn defensive player of the week honors, joining Gabe O'Neal and Derek Pegues.
True freshman quarterback Wes Carroll was named the SEC freshman of the week. Carroll completed 17 of 28 passes for 152 yards and two scores in Saturday's win and continued his career-starting streak of 137 pass attempts without being intercepted. That's a school record.
Carroll's honor marked the first time a MSU player has earned freshman of the week honors since the SEC started handing out the award in 2004.
