MORGANTOWN, W.VA. — Mississippi State fans who witnessed the Bulldogs' atrocious start in Saturday's 38-13 loss at No. 9 West Virginia, take note: Sylvester Croom was just as bewildered as you were.
"Didn't see this one coming," the MSU coach said.
What he saw wasn't easy on his stomach: A recovered fumble on the opening kickoff called back for an offsides penalty. A 64-yard Patrick White touchdown rush on the first play from scrimmage. Two fumbles, two more scores. A 31-0 deficit a mere six seconds into the second quarter.
And most notably, a humbling loss - his team's second in a row - on a beautiful fall afternoon quickly clouded with a 31-point crater against the ninth-ranked team in the country.
