| MSU faces familiar face in former Bulldog Thornton STARKVILLE — Not even a year ago, Brandon Thornton was starting for Mississippi State at tailback. He'll be carrying the ball Saturday afternoon, too - just as a member of the opposing team. A junior, Thornton is UAB's third-leading rusher and a regular in the backfield for the Blazers this season. He received a family hardship waiver to be able to play immediately at UAB - without sitting out the usual one year - after he left the Mississippi State program earlier this spring. "I talk to a couple of guys every now and then," Thornton told The Birmingham News Tuesday. "I believe we'll probably make some phone calls this week and talk a little trash to each other but nothing too serious." Thornton started two games for the Bulldogs in 2006, the first two of the season and two in the middle (Georgia, Oct. 21 and Kentucky, Oct. 2  .QUARTERBACK UPDATE MSU coach Sylvester Croom said after Wednesday's practice that Michael Henig's return to the quarterback role will come in due time.
