COLUMBIA, S.C. — Blake McAdams eyed the ball into his fingertips, then dropped it onto his swinging foot. He thought he hit another good punt, a feeling reinforced by a solid thump.

"Then all of the sudden, I heard another thump - and that's not usually good," the Mississippi State punter said.

Not good at all. Not good for the Bulldogs, who lost precious momentum when Eric Norwood burst through the line and blocked McAdams' punt.
One play later, they lost the lead. South Carolina quarterback Chris Smelley threw deep, finding Kenny McKinley near the goal line for the go-ahead 27-yard touchdown.

About an hour later, South Carolina celebrated a 38-21 win, and the Bulldogs' three-game winning streak ended in the din of an announced 78,883 on a warm, sunny Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

"There was no question that was the change of the ballgame right there," MSU coach Sylvester Croom said. "There was no question."
