STARKVILLE — Another week, and yet another kink has popped up in Mississippi State's evolving quest to find a reliable quarterback.

An MRI conducted Sunday morning confirmed that junior Josh Riddell tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while landing awkwardly after a throw late in Saturday's 38-21 loss at now-No. 11 South Carolina. The injury will require season-ending surgery.

So just as soon as Riddell's play suggested he might have taken a step forward in Michael Henig's absence, the Bulldogs seem to be addressing an all-too-familiar question: Who's the quarterback?

Mississippi State (3-2, 1-2 SEC) will go with Wesley Carroll as its starter Saturday against UAB and Chris Relf will be his backup, according to what MSU coach Sylvester Croom said after Saturday's game.

Croom did not return calls Sunday.
