| MSU takes step in right direction AUBURN, ALA. — About 30 minutes after Mississippi State had knocked off Auburn 19-14 Saturday, a guy who bleeds maroon who I've known for years told me that if I saw anyone from ESPN in the near future that I should tell them to, uh, well, take a hike. Seems that someone at the World Wide Leader had picked MSU to win just two games this season and my friend wasn't too happy about that. What I said is that for MSU to get national respect it has to do more of what it did Saturday and less of what it did on Aug. 30, when the Bulldogs lost 45-0 to LSU in a game televised nationally by ESPN. Winning takes care of everything, and slowly but surely, Sylvester Croom is chipping away at the notion that he can't coach or won't be able to turn the MSU program around. Yes, he won at Alabama last year, but Alabama was down. And yes, Auburn might be down and it does have a serious quarterback crisis, but so what? MSU takes step in right direction
