NEW ORLEANS — This weekend's excursion to the Big Easy ended about the way Mississippi State had hoped it would: Backups running out the clock, the band playing, smiles all around. This time, Tulane didn't trip up Mississippi State. A year after the Green Wave shocked MSU at Scott Field and sent the '06 season into a tizzy, the Bulldogs used a renewed offensive punch in the second half to pull away from and beat Tulane 38-17 here Saturday night. They did it by making savvy use of Tulane turnovers and playing stifling defense, but mainly by recovering the offensive form that their fans wanted a week ago when LSU shut out MSU in the season opener.
