MSU Football: Croom retains repentant Henig as No. 1 quarterback

STARKVILLE — Sylvester Croom hasn't talked much with Michael Henig since he threw those six interceptions in Thursday night's 45-0 loss to LSU.

He hasn't had to.

"We talked a lot during the game," Croom said Friday afternoon, emphasizing during. "Then, we talked a little bit after the game. He's aware that his performance is sub-par. He knows exactly what he did wrong."

But Croom is sticking with his man.

As Mississippi State takes the weekend off in preparation for next Saturday's game at Tulane, Croom said the junior Henig will remain the Bulldogs' starting quarterback.

But he also lifted the indefinite suspension placed on Henig's previous backup, Josh Riddell.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on Aug. 19. Croom immediately suspended him indefinitely.

Riddell didn't dress for Thursday night's game. Henig was the team's quarterback until true freshman Wesley Carroll entered in the fourth quarter when the game, a 45-0 LSU win, was well in hand.

I can't help but think this is a HUGE mistake.

After a game like that, where is this kid's confidence level? He's going to be second or third guessing every throw.

Blame Sylvester Croom it was his playcalling. He should have let DIxon run the ball and eventually Mississippi State would have scored and LSU wouldn't have had the unbelievable field positions.
