They are the questions that Sylvester Croom simply cannot answer.

No, he can't say for sure that his kicking game will get better this year. He doesn't know if his defense can recover from losing six starters. And he'll laugh off any question dealing with those magical six wins.

But there's one thing he'll promise as he heads into his fourth season:
"You'll see a lot more variety and you'll see a lot more of the offense than what we've seen in the past," he said Thursday.

So while the Aug. 30 game against LSU marks the start of the fourth season of Croom, consider it a fourth season of the innovation Croom brought with him when he came to Starkville early in 2004. It's the West Coast Offense, that short pass-happy scheme made famous on the professional level by the late Bill Walsh.

It should be interesting if they can pull off the "west coast" type offense this season. Of course if their defense isn't that good, they won't have a lot of game-time to perform.
