| Ladies Day at the Races The second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness, was won by a filly named Rachael Alexander. The rangy bay was the first filly to win the Preakness in 85 years and the first horse ever to win from No. 13, the far outside post in Pimlico. She shot out of the box and took the lead from the first and held it to the end.
Derby winner Mine that Bird, made a great effort but couldnt quite catch the fleet footed filly.
Rachael has beat up on her own gender, winning her last 5 races by a combined 43 1/2 lengths.
The next leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont is 1 1/2 miles and is the most grueling of the three races. It remains to be seen if she can hold off the guys for that race length. |
