Re: Best, worst comebacks in sports history

Mario Lemieux should have been much higher, if you ask me. His comeback was nearly on par with Lance Armstrong's. I can think of some other bad comebacks, mostly boxers, that might've deserved to be on the list too. On the whole it's pretty good except for the slight against Super Mario.

Manning and the Colts verses the Bucs a few years ago...when he marches them down for a bunch of scores with 4 minutes left on the clock...

Staubach against the 49ers in the 1972 playoffs...he leads them back from being down 28-14 in the last quarter...

Good ones, Goth, but I think we're talking about individual athletes coming back from injury, illness or hardship - Lance Armstrong's cancer, Mario Lemieux's Hodgskin's Disease, etc. Who makes your list of top comebacks under that criteria?

I'm with you on lemieux. thing is, he did things quietly, a little more modestly - didn't get the same amount of attention but came back BIG just the same. he's a classy dude.
How about Saku Koivu? Same thing. Strong guy, great athlete.
