1st 2nd 3rd Ballot Hall of Famers

in my opinion, if youre not a 1st ballot hall of famer then that should be it

why would you vote for them later if you didnt vote for them now ?

if a guy isnt deemed worthy when he 1st becomes eligible, how does he become more worthy as time passes ?

i do see 1 exception to this rule
it could be a generational thing
maybe there was a rule change that now makes a stat more impressive then it previously was

i could see for anyone not voted in on 1st ballot they get put in a pool and revisited after like 10 years or more, then maybe you get a select group of like 5 extra people voted in from a past generation

It would be one small Hall of Fame...1st ballots is reserved for the gods of the sports...and you acknowledge their distinct contribution to their sport by giving them one last degree of seperation from the mortals...

Next thing you'll be saying is that the All-Star game in baseball should be played 9 to a team...

i do believe there are more then 9 all-stars in a season, but i dont think every team deserves to be represented

though back to topic, just how many times could someone be passed over then be voted in ?

3,4,5 ? i could see, as you say, 1st ballot for the elite of the elite. then, 2nd ballot for the rest of the deserving

can we draw the line there ?

PArt of the issue I think is that they are limited each year in the number of votes they cast...so if you are on the bubble and you draw a year with Nolan Ryan, Geroge Brett, and Fisk etc...you are screwed...
