Arrow is 'We' acceptable when referring to a team ?

We won

We lost

is that acceptable ?

to me it is as long as youre not talking about an individual effort

i support the teams i like through all the good times and bad

i support them with everything i have: money, heart and soul

we couldnt block for crap - acceptable

we threw for 3 touchdowns - unacceptable

You are splitting hairs...We threw for three touchdown is not an individual thing...the line blocked the receivers got open...the QB got it done...it is still a "we"...

ok i concede your point, but for an individual effort, how about throwing a perfect game ? i suppose you will tell me it isnt individual as the catcher called the pitches even though the pitcher shakes off the pitches he doesnt want. how about a golfer winning a tourney ? i dont guess id say 'we' won the Masters

but you avoided answering the question

did "we" win ?

or is it, the team i like won ?

Lets split it..."We" only if you were there and they feed off the cheers..."We" didn't do squat in front of the TV set eating cheetos...

ok, so to you it is a form of monetary discrimination

i cant afford to go to the Pats and Red Sox games especially due to the fact i live in Maine, and now only those that can afford it do deserve the "we" moniker

trust me, no one bleeds more for the Red Sox then me, except maybe Schilling

Its not the blood...its the fact that you don't play an outcome in the game...that's all...You can say "my boys won the game"...they are your boys...you cheer for them...bleed for them etc...but "we" is a stretch...

I fall into the "we" won thing, because it feels good. Sometimes i might even say "we" lost.

Re: is 'We' acceptable when referring to a team ?

"We" is perfectly fine. I know some people don't like it (I've gotten "We? What did YOU do to help the team win?" from smart arses in the past) but it shows your devotion to a team and it's a lot easier to say than "My favorite team won!". Plus, who thinks in the heat of the moment? It's just human nature to let a big ol' "WE WIN!" slip out, you know?

I agree with you. The team is supported by the people that love the game they play, The school, the state, even the country. It's we Won or we lost
