| Women's Hockey wins the Clarkson Cup? We have something called a Governor General up here in Canada, which is really just a ceremonial link to the Queen, and someone is appointed to this position every i don't know five years or something like that. They live off the fat of the land during that time.
So a woman named Adrienne Clarkson, who used to be a journalist, was Governor General. She is no longer. Now she's decided that she should make a cup for the women's hockey teams in canada that can rival the NHL Stanley Cup. Right.
She presented it to Cassie Campbell et al yesterday. Paper says the "intention is for the trophy to be given to the team that wins the national women's championship".
So, a cup made up by a woman who thinks she's pretty important and matters so it's going to be called the Clarkson Cup and a cup called the Stanley Cup that has a history that stretches across maybe three centuries, has been won by hundreds of teams and has provided millions of stories.
I think the only similarity is, they are both silver. |
