Re: Biggest Quiter in Sport? I'm not really a boxing fan, but Ricky William's early retirement shocked many fans. It was not as legendary as the Duran and Tyson moment, my boxing fanatics. However, it was a shocker to everyone. Did it affect you in anyway?

Re: Biggest Quiter in Sport? I was under the impression that he knew he couldnt pass the drug test so he played the Jim Brown/retire in his prime angle. It was phonier than a 3 dollar bill and everyone knew it so youre right, thats a good example of a quitter Marc.

Re: Biggest Quiter in Sport? That one will be debated till the end of time. The A&E Muhammad Ali retrospective showed that "the phantom punch" actually landed on Listons neck and it did snap his head back. The punch landed but whether it was enough to leave Liston rolling around on the mat like a wounded tiger is doubtful. Maybe it hurt Liston just enough to know that he was about to get his carcass kicked again. Either way I say that was a quitter.

Re: Biggest Quiter in Sport? Getting back to Liston/Ali II with the punch that "KOed" Sonny, one thing was said on Sonny's A&E biography. His wife still alive said that they never got a cent off any kind of payoff for dropping the fight to Ali. She said they were dirt poor and had trouble making ends meet. Weird, youd think if Sonny was told to lay down hed get some kind of compensation for it especially since Ali practically toured the country insulting him in every concievable way. Anyhow speaking of phantom punches what about Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson? Seldon was KOed on a World Wrestling Entertainment punch that never connected. It didnt look like it connected in full speed and slo-mo more than confirmed it. Years later Seldon would admit to a Don King payoff. Thats quitting! Ali's punch connected (it's effectiveness were debating) but Tyson's uppercut whizzed by Bruce Seldons face! Another black eye on the sport of boxing.
