The other day i got to thinking...why do we love our respective teams so much?

Understandably some people are 'born into' a team but what makes a person love a team as much as they do. People ask me why i love the Titans so much when i've never seen them play or even live on the same continent as the team? Why do some people get into fights defending their team, when no-one from the organization is aware of their existence? Why do people have their teams logo tattooed on their body for the rest of their life?

So i put forward this question to fans from all sports backgrounds, football, basketball, hockey, baseball...everyone...why do you love your team so much?

why do I love the Leafs so much?
There is something exciting about them that no other team holds for me - it must have been bred in me since I was a small child. I don't mean to offend anyone by comparing it to religion, but in a way, that's what it was for me - i accepted the Leafs as my team. My father's faith lay in cheering for the Leafs (although he sported a Rick McLeish shirt because he loves the Philly logo), as did my brother's and so did - and does - mine.
The Leafs were The Team. I went away from them in the 80s, school and (just like Mary Tyler Moore) I was making it on my own. Then in the 90s, I came back.
I love their logo. I love their colours. I love their faces. I love their style of play. I love their wins and their losses and their fights and their coaches. I love the fan base that never jumps ship - just complains a lot. Yet the Leafs sell out every game. We are not fairweather friends. We are here for the long haul.
They have failed to achieve for years, yet I'm going nowhere.
The Leafs have a vast history and the future is full of hope - because as a fan, really, that's all you have, isn't it? So colour mine blue and white.
There is no alternative.

Hmm, for me love seems too strong of a word. Do I love the Cowboys???

OK, I'll accept love for the time being for lack of a better word. Originally I got the Cowboys because everyone around me hated them. That was fun in Packerland. But then they kind of grew on me.
I think that somehow our teams give us an identity of some sorts. I am a Cowboy fan, alex is a Titan fan. blue is a Leafs fan. Its who we are. But sometimes we forget thats who we are only in the sports world and then people take it too far. No way am I getting a bunch of stars tatooed on me.

why do I love my teams?...because school work bored me silly and the library was full of books and magazines and news paper articles of the great teams at the time...and TV did not have a great selection back in the day, so when the Cowboys, Reds, Bruins, and Celtics played, it was fun to watch it over 3 other channels full of crap...but if a new team paid me, I would switch loyalty...only teams haven't gotten around to buying their fan base...so I am sticking to what I follow out of pure apathy.
