| Re: Favorite woman Athlete I would have to go with Mia Hamm who was an inspiring soccer player and loving husband of Nomar. I am surprised that she didn't change her name to Mia Garciaparra. Anyway, she is one of my favorite athletes. Venus Williams and Lisa Leslie are my second favorites. The high-schooler who scored 100+ points gets an honorable mention. |

| Re: Favorite woman Athlete I'll have to second Marc's vote for the greatest American soccer player of all time, Mia Hamm, loving WIFE of Nomar Gacriaparra. The records she set are seconded only by the influence she had on young women across the country. I see that kind of potential, a few years down the road, in Michelle Wie as well. Honorable mention to, although she was before my time, Babe Didrikson Zaharias (hope I spelled that right) -- the female equivelent of Jim Thorpe. |

Okay others: Olga Korbut during the 1972 Olympics...which lead to the whole gymnastics craze Mary Decker Slaney beating the Russians in the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters at the World Championship Games in Helinski 1983...televised at an ungoldy time in the wee hours of the morning Mia Hamm...Saw her play live in the 1996 Olympics...and she scored a goal... Hamill winning the gold in the 1976 games... Tennis player Kathleen Horvath...Cause I met her and she was a really nice person... Becky Hammon, the little guard for the Liberty's...she can hit those three pretty darn good... Oh Suzy Favor-Hamilton...sub 4:00 Minute 1,500 meter runner (3.57.40 second only to Decker in US history) for the USA...(anyone ever seen her Swimsuit Calender?...she is/was a cutie...link below http://suzyfavorhamilton.com/photos/index.htm) Unfortunately, she has not done well at the Championships or Olympics... |

| Re: Favorite woman Athlete She's known for so much more, but can I say Jill Kinmont? she's incredibly inspirational, such an amazing person. Nancy greene would be my second choice, named Canada's female athlete of the century in 1999. She won gold and silver medals at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and overall World Cup titles in 1967 and 68. Won a total of 13 World Cup victories and that's a Canadian record. Retired at age 24, fresh faced and forever on the slopes. |

| Re: Favorite woman Athlete Any Anna Benson fans out there? She doesn't play a sport unless you consider her occupation a sport (or a way of entertainment). Everybody on this thread should see where their favorites rank at:http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/siforwomen/top_100/1/ You can thank me later for finding this site! |

For example it has Shirley Babashoff at 67 ahead of Kornelia Enders at 68...Enders destroyed Babashoff in the 1976 Olympics...so unless they are penalizing her for "bulking up the old East German way (drugs)"...the rating does not make sense...and if you are going to penalize her...then way have her on the list at all??? By the Way, Babashoff is now a US Postal Worker...a mailman (mailperson?)...and she still has some pretty hard feelings about the East German Swim team. |

| Re: Favorite woman Athlete I know I won't spell her name correctly, but during the seventies, the best all around gymnast was the Russian, Ludmilla Touresheva. She was great at everything, and graceful without having to re-invent the wheel, like Korbut and Nadia did. The best woman athlete of all time was Babe Didrickson-Zaharias, no one else is even close. |

Babe was in a league of her own...but much too long ago to really be a favorite, since few people around saw her compete...but talk about your multi sport athlete...gold medalist in track, dominant force of women's golf...now that's a span few can achieve... |
