It's official: Marion Jones' track and field career ended before September of 2000.

You might think you remember Jones having a much longer career than that, but the International Association of Athletics Federations has ruled that all of Jones' results dating to September 2000 -- including the gold medals she won at the Olympics that month -- have been annulled because she admits she used steroids.

The IAAF, which is track and field's governing body, has ordered Jones to return about $700,000 in prize money, although there are reports that Jones is broke and won't be able to pay the money back.

What a sad end to what was once a storied career. Well, I guess that's what you get for cheating.

At least she came forward; how many others have beaten the system and kept quiet about it? Quite a few I would imagine.

See, I am not on board with this...track is tained waaay beyond Jones...you can't tell me that the women's 400 meter record (Koch for East Germany in a race I saw, which she ran in 47.60...no one has come close in 20 plus years!), 800 meter record ( a very masculine looking Czech runner whose name I can't spell) and 1,500 meter record (a Chinese runner accused of many, many illegal things) are not tainted way beyond Jones...yet the records stand. I mean come on. You got to have some freakin statue of limitations on this, or not recognize half of these world marks! It's beyond absurd to only "Erase" the confessing American...

Well, confessing is the key word. She, unlike the others, came forward and essentially volunteered for this to happen. So it did.

East german athletes were essentially guinee pigs, and now are (physically) suffering the consequences. Quite a case in Germany.

So? Lets pity them...but take them off the freakin record books or let others stand...don't have a double standard...by the way, I hardly think Flo Jo was clean either...one does not improved .5 or .6 in their 100 meter time over night at the world class level.
