Former track star and current convicted felon
Marion Jones has voluntarily
relinquished the five Olympic medals she won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, fulfilling a request from the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.I guess some people think Jones did the honorable thing here, but I think she should have kept her medals. The 2000 Olympics weren't a figment of our collective imaginations; they actually happened. Jones actually did win those three golds and two bronzes. The International Olympic Committee has the right to alter the record books, mint new medals and give them to the new winners, but I would have no problem with Jones keeping those mementos of her past.
I know of no one who seriously believes steroid users like Shawne Merriman, Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds are going to hand over any bats, balls, trophies or other tangible items associated with the accomplishments they achieved while using steroids. So why should Jones?
