This is LT in a wash. We've talked up and down about how much celebrity status should play in this, but the way I see it, the individual must at least show at least some shred of ability in his or her sport for that to matter. Patrick is a decent driver, but she has ZERO wins on the Indycar circuit. LT is a record holder, a Pro Bowler and I believe a former MVP. He may also be the best player in pro football. He wins this one easily in my book.

And since when does Tomlinson have nothing off-the-field to brag about? He was EA Sports first choice to be on the cover of Madden 08 (turned them down). He's the spokesperson for FOX Sports Fantasy Football and has appeared in ESPN Sportscenter commercials. He was named the 2007 Most Unstoppable Jock on Spike TV Guys' Choice Awards. Not to mention that his play and his off-field charitable work earned him the 2007 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Man of the Year isn't on the field. That would be Player of the Year. Man of the year is a character award. Off the field stuff doesn't need to be pop culture alone, does it? Because LT won that award with his charity work. I could go into more detail, if you want. There's plenty of info about it on his bio over at the Chargers website. Some people choose to use their fame in different ways, I guess. I'm sure not going to punish LT because he's more interested in helping kids than being featured on magazines.

you are under selling Patrick...but she is not in LT's company...maybe Jim Brown, Smith and Sanders ...but not Patrick...yet anyways...

i think this is a sports debate first and foremost ...... only when they are equal on the field do you then go to off field importance

on the field of play (or track) Danica doesnt hold a candle to LT
