Dang, this is a close one. Both are pretty equal in terms of accomplishments. But I give the slight edge to Parker, because he's hot right now (fresh off a Finals MVP performance) and because he's more of a celebrity, even if it is primarily through osmosis. Boy, this one was almost too close to call for me, though.

Sharapova I look at more as a work in progress (athletically speaking, because I know if I don't clarify Bette's gonna hassle me over that comment). She's still very young, and while she's accomplished some great things in tennis, there's still a long way for her to go. Parker is closer to being a true great, in my book. But hey, like I said, it's a close one.

im going with Parker on this one, the Eva Longoria thing comes into play but only if we are going to bring in looks, i think based on what they have achieved Parker edges Sharapova this time, i mean for one he is on a team where he isnt playing constantly, some games he gets a quater or 2, some games he is only the 6th man and yet everytime he steps on to the court, especially in the last few season, he has been formidable and with the help of Duncan he has become one of the best players in the NBA.

Now see, this I disagree with. By bringing up Longoria and Brady's girlfriend, I'm not trying to discuss the looks aspect, but rather the fame aspect. Both Parker's and Brady's better halves are famous OUTSIDE of the realm of sports. So you start hearing their names more on tabloid TV, on late night talk shows, etc. Anytime an athlete gains fame above and beyond his or her sport and in pop culture, for whatever reason, it has to come into discussion. After all, we are looking for the ultimate sports "star" aren't we?

yeah but at the same time i think that it becomes void when the player has made his name on his own. Parker made his name for his playing ability and Eva Longoria made her name becuase of her abilities. when it doesnt count is if it is a player who isnt in the spot light and who people dont know about...for example if an NFL offensive lineman, who may be well known with fans of the team but not in the general public eye, begins dating/marrying a famous actress, than thats when the famous "significant other" comes into play, but if a person such as Parker who has won fame through his own success (playing ability, NBA championships etc etc...) than it becomes Tony Parker and Eva Longoria, rather than Eva Longorias husband Tony Parker
