This one interesting because Federer has no personality but Dominates his sport more than anyoneelse.Then theres Amanda Beard who has 2 gold medals which something great in it self.And she posed for playboy which helps so much but i still think Federer is a bigger star.

its to hard to pick on this one...so im not going to ...i just think that obviously Federer is a great sportsman and hes got all those records and won all that stuff etc etc...but at the same time Beard has won Olympic medals and that demands a lot more than tennis i think, tennis you practice all year round fair enough, but for the Olympics you have to train hard for 4 years, not let your fitness drop, be at your peak even when your competing and even when you get to the Olympics its not as easy and going out and doing the business, your going to be competing with people from all over the world who may be better than you. and loose one event and its over for another 4 years.

the playboy thing puts Beard up there with Federer but its to close to call on this one

Huh?...got to look it up...last good looking javelin thrower that I know of was Tiina Lillack the World Championship gold medalist in 1983, who won the event on the last throw of the championship before the home town crowd and later threw one out in the 245 feet range for a world record...I remember too much crap.

But as we've discussed in earlier threads, we're looking not just at athletic success but also their pop culture impact. I guess that's where someone like Beard sneaks into the poll. As Goth pointed out, Natalie Coughlin is the far more accomplished athlete, but she didn't pose naked on a men's magazine. So, eh, whattaya gonna do?
