Street Sense wins Kentucky Derby

According to the Associated Press, "Street Sense roared from next-to-last in a 20-horse field to win the Kentucky Derby, putting trainer Carl Nafzger back in the winner's circle 17 years after his first visit... In beating Hard Spun by 2 1/2 lengths, Street Sense became the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to return in the spring and win on the first Saturday in May, snapping an 0-for-23 skid. He did so on the same Churchill Downs track where he won the Juvenile six months ago. He was also the first 2-year-old champion to win the Derby since Spectacular Bid in 1979."

I don't follow horse racing much. What were the odds on Street Sense coming in?

I dont follow horse racing either, I just cant believe how many celebritys go to this event. I guess it remains a gambling extravaganza. And making Kentucky famous for something besides basketball..

Re: Street Sense wins Kentucky Derby

His final odds were like 4.6:1 He was the favorite however had the longest odds ever for a derby favorite at post time if I'm not mistaken. I watched the race...pretty uneventful because with TV coverage, they don't really focus on the horse that's in next-to-last. All of a sudden, it just showed him coming out of no where on the rail and then he won...learn to telecast sporting events NBC, those guys are the absolute worst sports broadcasting network on TV.

I had to leave to take my wife to a friends house. I had to listen to it on the radio. It was absolutely exciting on the radio. The announcer called the race great. You knew just when Street Sense was making his move. NBC should let them make the call and just show the whole field from the side.
